About Us
Lafayette Water Works currently operates two well fields with 14 active wells, each approximately 80 to 100 feet deep. The water is drawn from a substantial pre-glacial valley aquifer filled with sand and gravel deposits from ancient glacier melt. Rainfall and snowmelt naturally replenish this aquifer, maintaining relatively stable water availability.
As water moves through soil and rock formations, it dissolves minerals and naturally-occurring radioactive materials while potentially collecting other substances including contaminants.
