Mesa Water District
About Us
Mesa Water ranks among the most efficient water agencies in Orange County, according to a recent analysis of local water districts. The study compared annual expenditures per capita—the operational costs required to deliver water to each of the District's 128,000 customers. Among ten Orange County water providers, Mesa Water emerged as the most cost-effective supplier.
Groundwater resources serve as Mesa Water's primary supply. Water is distributed from a clear-water reservoir and supplemented by water from a deep, amber water aquifer that's pumped and treated at the Mesa Water Reliability Center (MWRC). From 2000 to 2010, the MWRC utilized ozone treatment processes. To enhance capacity, the facility underwent significant improvements, implementing nanofiltration technology before reopening in 2013 as the Mesa Water Reliability Facility. The improved MWRC now processes greater volumes, enabling Mesa Water to provide 100% of its supply from local, sustainable sources.
With AAA ratings from both Fitch and Standard & Poors, Mesa Water maintains strong financial stability. The District has earned California Special Districts Association District of Distinction recognition since the program began in 2007. This certification acknowledges organizations providing essential public services in a fiscally-responsible manner. Led by a publicly-elected, five-member Board of Directors, Mesa Water benefits from forward-thinking leadership and excellent customer relations. Recent surveys indicate over 90% customer satisfaction with water quality and service. Since 1960, Mesa Water has delivered clean, safe, reliable water without reportable quality incidents.
