About Us
The Village of Montgomery is proud to announce that our Municipal Water Treatment Facilities met all federal and state water quality standards in 2017. This 2017 Water Quality Report highlights our commitment to providing safe, reliable water.
Our system diligently protects its groundwater sources while continuously improving water treatment processes. We want residents to understand our efforts to enhance treatment methods and safeguard water resources, as well as learn about the quality of water you consume daily.
If you have questions after reviewing this report, please contact Power Supervisor Jack Rosenstiel at (630) 896-9241. The Village Board welcomes feedback from water consumers via phone (630-896-8080), at Village Hall (200 N. River St, Montgomery IL 60538) where Board Meetings occur at 7pm on the second and fourth Mondays monthly, or through our website.
Source of Water: Our supply comes from nine groundwater wells located within or near village boundaries. We draw from three different aquifer systems - underground geological formations containing water. From shallowest to deepest, these are St Charles Sand and Gravel, Silurian Limestone, and Ironton-Galesville Sandstone.
After extraction, raw water undergoes treatment through two different methods: Lime Conditioning and Ion-Exchange Treatment. These processes remove impurities, soften the water, and add chlorination. Fluoride levels are maintained to help reduce dental problems, and phosphate is added for corrosion control. The finished water is then distributed to consumers.
Our treatment facilities represent ongoing efforts by Village management to provide quality water. The Lime Treatment Facility was constructed in 1990, with Ion Exchange Water Treatment Facilities added in 2003 and 2005. The Village is currently completing improvement projects throughout the Water Works System to maintain our high standards.

Montgomery Drinking Water Company and EPAMontgomery Municipal Water Report Information
Montgomery is a thriving community peacefully situated along both banks of the Fox River in Kane and Kendall counties, Illinois, just south of Aurora and approximately 40 miles west of Chicago. Founded in 1835 and incorporated as a Village in 1858, Montgomery was named by founder Daniel Gray after his hometown in Montgomery County, New York.
The historic stone grist mill built by Gray in 1853 has been beautifully preserved and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. For many years, Montgomery maintained a relatively stable population, with 5,471 residents in 2000. A dramatic increase in residential development resulted in a population surge to 18,438 by 2010 – a remarkable 237 percent growth in just one decade.
Despite this rapid expansion, Montgomery has successfully preserved its warm, small-town atmosphere and remains a close-knit community where neighbors genuinely care about each other.

Montgomery Drinking Water Company and CDCTo better assist our community, we've compiled answers to frequently asked questions. If you don't find your answer here, please contact our office directly.
- How could I have used this much water? The meter reading may have been incorrectly recorded or difficult to read. Alternatively, you might have an undetected leaky toilet or faucet. Contact our office, and we'll help resolve the issue.
- What should I do if experiencing low pressure? First inspect your meter and surrounding area for possible leaks. Then call our office to report the low pressure in your location.
- Why is my water discolored? Recent repairs may have allowed air to enter the line, causing a milky appearance. If discoloration persists, please contact us.
- What chemicals does the utility add to our water? We only use chemicals approved by the National Safety Foundation specifically for drinking water treatment.
- My water tastes, looks, or smells unusual. Is it safe? All public water systems must maintain minimum chlorine levels (0.2 mg/L tested at line endpoints) by state law. Systems using chloramine require 0.5 mg/L. We test disinfectant levels daily to ensure safety.
- Why do particles appear when running hot water? Your water heater likely needs flushing. CAUTION: Most manufacturers recommend hiring a professional. If attempting yourself, read the owner's manual carefully to prevent injury or damage.
- Why do I have an outstanding balance when I sent my payment? We may have received it after the due date or perhaps not received it at all. Call our office for assistance resolving the issue.
