About Us
This annual municipal water quality report covers January 1 through December 31, 2017. The Village publishes this report annually to inform residents about our water quality, source, treatment processes, and regulated substances detected in our supply.
For more detailed information about Mundelein's water quality, including tests for unregulated compounds, please contact Rob Haley at the Village of Mundelein Water Division (847-949-3273) or Melissa Olenick at CLCJAWA (847-295-7788). CLCJAWA and the Village of Mundelein maintained full compliance with all drinking water regulations this year.
WATER SOURCE
Our Village purchases water from the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency (CLCJAWA), an inter-governmental cooperative serving Grayslake, Gurnee, Lake Bluff, Libertyville, Lindenhurst, Mundelein, Round Lake, Round Lake Beach, Round Lake Heights, Round Lake Park, Lake County (unincorporated areas of Knollwood and Roundout), Vernon Hills, Wildwood, and Grandwood Park.
TREATMENT PROCESS
Water from Lake Michigan undergoes advanced treatment at CLCJAWA's Robert M. Neal Water Treatment Facility in Lake Bluff. The process begins with ozone treatment to kill microorganisms and break down contaminants. Ozone is generated on-site from air, bubbled into the water, then converted back to oxygen. Next, a coagulant removes sediment and impurities. The clarified water passes through filters with activated carbon and sand to eliminate remaining turbidity.
Turbidity, a measure of water clarity, is continuously monitored by automated equipment and manually checked twice daily in the laboratory. The water then receives ultraviolet light treatment to neutralize any remaining organisms. Finally, the purified water is treated with chlorine for disinfection during distribution, fluoride for dental health, and phosphate to protect household plumbing from metal leaching.
CLCJAWA has earned the Excellence in Water Treatment award for 13 consecutive years. It was the third facility nationwide to receive this distinction from the Partnership for Safe Water, a voluntary EPA-sponsored program that holds participants to higher standards than current regulations require.

What is the Eureka Springs Historic District?
In 1970, Eureka Springs became Arkansas' first district placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Historic District Commission was established in 1978 by ordinance #1047. Eureka Springs is also a Certified Local Government (CLG), meaning our HDC meets all required federal and state standards. CLG status qualifies us for preservation grant funding, technical assistance, and training for commissioners.
Why does Eureka Springs have a design review process?
The Eureka Springs Historic District Commission works to preserve our town's architectural and natural beauty. Our shared heritage is irreplaceable and cannot be duplicated. Altering historic building exteriors without consideration for original style damages our community's future. The ESHDC takes a long-term approach, partnering with current residents to protect this intersection of past, present, and future.
How does the Commission affect my property?
The Commission must issue a Certificate of Appropriateness for ANY EXTERIOR work on ALL properties within district boundaries.
Is obtaining a Certificate of Appropriateness legally required?
Yes. Eureka Springs Municipal Code Chapter 2.64 governs the Historic District. A Certificate of Appropriateness must be obtained before any Building Permit can be issued.
