Utah Water Utility Companies

As a property owner, did you know that you're responsible for the water service lateral that runs from your home or business to the City's water main? You also maintain the sewer lateral that extends from your property to the City's sewer mainline.

This responsibility includes keeping these laterals in good working condition by making necessary repairs or replacements. Water service laterals typically extend from your building to the City's water meter, which is usually located within the City's right of way or easement.

Murray City maintains the line from the water mainline to the meter. However, if you live in a private community, you may be responsible for the entire service line—from your property to the main water line in the street. In these cases, water service laterals are owned by the property owners they serve, and the City is not responsible for their repair or maintenance.
