Our Purpose: We are pleased to present the 2016 Annual Water Quality Report. We aim to keep you informed about the quality of your water and the services provided throughout 2016. Our goal is to deliver safe, dependable drinking water while continuously improving our treatment processes and protecting our water resources to meet community needs effectively.

Water Source: Murray's water supply comes from groundwater accessed through six wells in the McNairy Formation Aquifer. Kentucky water systems must test for numerous contaminants, with only detected substances appearing in our results table. For a complete list of tests performed, please contact our treatment plant office.

Monitoring Protocol: Murray Water System regularly monitors water quality according to Federal and State regulations. The table shows monitoring results from January 1st through December 31st, 2016.

Wellhead Protection: Murray Water System's wellhead protection plan serves as a nationally recognized model for determining potential contamination risks to wells. Our system has been nominated by the Kentucky Division of Water to represent the state for the EPA's Region 5 Award of Excellence.

Water Sources & EPA Regulations: Drinking water sources (including tap and bottled water) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals and can pick up substances from animal or human activities. The EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems to ensure drinking water safety.

Special Health Considerations: Some individuals may be particularly vulnerable to water contaminants. People with compromised immune systems—such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, elderly persons, and infants—should seek medical advice about drinking water. Question: What should I do if experiencing low water pressure?

Answer: First, examine your meter area for possible leaks. Second, contact our office to report the low pressure at your location.

Question: Why does my water appear milky?

Answer: Recent repairs may have allowed air to enter the lines, causing a temporary milky appearance.

Question: What chemicals are added to Murray's water supply?

Answer: We add chlorine and liquid ammonia sulfate for disinfection purposes.

Question: Why does my water suddenly taste, look, or smell different?

Answer: After service interruptions (like line breaks), chlorine can release noticeable odors and flavors that may take several days to normalize.

Question: Is my water safe to drink if it tastes, looks, or smells unusual?

Answer: All Texas public water systems must maintain minimum chlorine levels of 0.5 (measured at system endpoints) by national law. We maintain levels between 1.5 and 2.5 at our source points, with daily testing to ensure safety. Unless you receive a "boil water" notice during emergencies, your water remains safe for consumption.

Question: Why does my hot water have an unpleasant odor?

Answer: Your water heater likely needs flushing, which should be done annually. CAUTION: If performing this maintenance yourself, consult the owner's manual to avoid personal injury or damage to the unit.

Question: Why does my bill show a "previous balance" when I know I sent payment?

Answer: We may have received your payment after the due date or possibly not received it at all. Contact our office for assistance resolving this issue.

Question: I couldn't possibly have used this much water!

Answer: You might not have – meter readings can be transposed or difficult to read, which we can correct. Alternatively, you might have an undetected toilet leak. Call our office and we'll help identify the problem.
