About Us
We're pleased to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report. This document outlines the quality water and services we deliver to you daily. Our goal is to meet Federal and State requirements while providing you with safe, reliable water.
We want to help you understand our ongoing efforts to improve water treatment processes and protect our valuable water resources. Your water comes from groundwater wells drawing from the Floridan Aquifer, which is then chlorinated for disinfection before distribution.
In 2017, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection completed a Source Water Assessment of our system. Their search found no potential contamination sources near our wells. Assessment results are available at http://www.Dep.Nation.Fl.Us/swapp.
The North Sumter Utilities Water System had 23,796 service connections as of December 31, 2017. We regularly monitor for contaminants according to all applicable regulations. This report covers January 1 to December 31, 2017, with some data from earlier testing included as required.
You may notice some technical terms in our water quality data. Here's what they mean:
- Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL): Highest allowed contaminant level in municipal water
- Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG): Level below which no known health risks exist
- Action Level (AL): Concentration that triggers required treatment
- Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level (MRDL): Highest allowed disinfectant level
- Parts per million (ppm): One part contaminant per million parts water
- Parts per billion (ppb): One part contaminant per billion parts water

Infrastructure maintenance is funded through annual assessments to commercial property owners based on square footage. The District is governed by a 5-member Board of Supervisors elected biannually according to Chapter 190.006, Florida Statutes. Since the District contains no residential properties, Board members are elected by landowners within the District boundaries.
The Village Center Community Development District provides various services to residential properties in The Villages, including maintenance, fire and emergency medical response, recreational facilities, water retention areas, and executive golf. These services are funded through monthly contractual amenity fees paid by each residential property as defined in applicable Declarations of Covenants and Restrictions.
As a Florida governmental entity, the District adheres to the same standards as cities and counties regarding Sunshine Law, Public Records Law, Financial Reporting, and Ethics codes (Florida Statute Chapter 112, Part III).
