We encourage our valued customers to stay informed about their water utility. For questions about this report or your water service, please contact Kayla Wylie at (386) 329-0144. To learn more, attend our regularly scheduled meetings held on the second and last Thursdays of each month at 6:00 PM at Town Hall.
The City of Palatka conducts regular monitoring for contaminants in accordance with Federal and State regulations. This report shows our monitoring results from January 1 to December 31, 2017, with some data from before January 1, 2017, representing the most recent testing conducted under applicable laws and regulations.
As water travels over land or underground, it can absorb substances including microbes, inorganic and organic chemicals, and radioactive materials. All municipal water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. However, the presence of these substances does not necessarily indicate a health risk.

Palatka was established as a trading post in 1821 and now serves as the county seat of Putnam County, Florida. The name derives from the Timucuan Indian word Pilotakata, meaning "crossing." The original settlement was burned during the 1836 Seminole War.
In 1838, the US government constructed Fort Shannon, which served as a military installation, supply depot, and hospital for area forts. During the Civil War, Federal troops occupied the city. In the post-war period, riverboats traveled the St. Johns River, making Palatka the gateway to interior Florida.
Palatka became known as the "Diamond City of St. Johns" and featured several world-class hotels including the Arlington, Saratoga, LaFayette, and Putnam House, with capacity for 6,000 visitors. The city flourished in the late 1800s as a major center for timber and citrus, earning a reputation for natural beauty that attracted numerous visitors.
However, a devastating downtown fire in 1884 destroyed many grand hotels, and severe freezes in 1894 and 1895 devastated the local citrus industry, leading to decline in tourism and commerce. Today, Palatka features a substantial downtown business district, a beautiful waterfront park, and numerous historic and cultural sites. The city hosts many excellent festivals and events. For additional information, visit the Putnam County Historical Society.
