Ogdensburg City
About Us
The City of Ogdensburg provides residents with an annual report detailing municipal water quality to ensure compliance with State health standards. Last year, our water met all State regulatory requirements. This report outlines water quality information from the previous year, including source details and treatment processes.
Our water comes from the Saint Lawrence River through our intake station on the Western side of the city. The water undergoes filtration through four slow sand filters and two Diatomaceous earth filters to remove impurities. We then add chlorine to eliminate bacteria and fluoride to promote dental health before distribution.
For those interested, the "Source Water Assessment Program" (SWAP) report is available by contacting George Kennedy at the Water Filtration Plant at (315)393-0490. This document identifies potential contamination sources including agricultural runoff, shipping leaks, storm-generated turbidity, and wastewater discharges.
The Ogdensburg water system serves 11,128 residents through 5,080 service connections. In 2016, we produced 681 million gallons of water, with a daily average of 1.86 million gallons. Our peak usage day was July 5th, when we pumped 2.8 million gallons. Water rates for 2016 were $4.11 per 1,000 gallons for metered services and $334.00 for flat rate services, with annual operational costs of $2,321,000.
