Ossining Water Department

To comply with State and Federal regulations, the Village of Ossining publishes an annual report detailing the quality of your municipal water. This report aims to enhance your understanding of water quality and highlight the importance of protecting our water resources.

We're proud to report that last year, your tap water met all State health requirements for municipal water quality. Our system did not violate any maximum contaminant levels for water quality standards. This report provides an overview of water quality for the previous year and information about our water sources and treatment processes.

The report includes detailed test results for 27 regulated contaminants and how they compare to State standards, plus information on the 112 additional substances not detected in our water. We want you to be fully informed about your municipal water quality.

WATER SOURCES:
Our water comes from two surface water sources: the Indian Brook Reservoir at 25 Fowler Avenue, and the Croton Reservoir, part of the New York City Water System. In 2017, approximately 98.2% came from the Croton Reservoir and 1.8% from Indian Brook Reservoir. These sources are blended and treated at the Indian Brook Water Filtration Plant.

TREATMENT PROCESS:
Raw water undergoes multiple treatment processes including oxidation, aeration, coagulation/flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, pH/corrosion control, fluoridation, and disinfection. The treated water is then pumped to three finished water storage tanks (Pleasantville Road, Lakeville and Torbank Tanks) for public use.

WATER QUALITY ASSESSMENT:
The New York State Department of Health has evaluated our water supply's vulnerability to contamination through the Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP). These assessments use available information to estimate potential contamination risks. Our water comes from the NYC Croton watershed in Putnam and Westchester counties, with reservoirs that are relatively shallow and have varying development along their shorelines.

SYSTEM STATISTICS:
The water system serves approximately 32,000 people through 6,032 service connections. In 2017, about 1.05 billion gallons of water were produced, with a daily average of 2.89 million gallons. The maximum daily usage was 4.56 million gallons. Village residents were charged $25.00 for the first 748 gallons and $7.87 for each additional 748 gallons, while non-village customers paid $37.50 for the first 748 gallons and $11.80 for each additional 748 gallons.
