Plum Boro Municipal Authority Municipal Water Report Info

About Plum Borough Municipal Authority: The Authority was established under the Municipality Authorities Act of 1945 and incorporated on June 7, 1949, to acquire, hold, construct, improve, maintain and operate various projects including waterworks, water supply and distribution systems.

The Authority merged with the Sewer Authority in 1996 and now manages all wastewater collection and treatment projects throughout Plum Borough. The Water Department primarily operates a distribution system, purchasing water from the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County for customer distribution.

Plum Borough Municipal Authority operates the High School pump station on Leechburg Road and maintains six storage tanks ranging from 250,000 to 2 million gallons. The Water Department serves approximately 9,800 customers, with 9,700 being residential. About 70% of the Authority's water infrastructure is over 20 years old, though a capital improvement plan is actively replacing older lines throughout the Borough.

The Sewer Department operates a sewage treatment facility and maintains transmission systems serving approximately 10,000 customers. Their Holiday Park STP facility, designed to treat 1.52 MGD, recently underwent an $8 million renovation. The Plum Creek area's sewage lines are maintained by the Municipal Authority with treatment at the Penn Hills Plum Creek Plant, serving around 5,000 customers. The Authority maintains a sewer line maintenance program and requires testing of private laterals during property transfers.
