About Us
The recent drought has taught Californians valuable lessons about water conservation, creating a new approach to water management throughout the state. Many outdoor watering and landscaping practices continue to evolve as the California State Reference Control Board and Governor's Office refine "Making Water Conservation a California Way of Life" through Executive Order B-40-17.
Quartz Hill Water District remains proactive in resource protection by purchasing surplus surface water when available from Antelope Valley East Kern, our state water provider. This strategy helps preserve the Antelope Valley's groundwater reserves for future drought emergencies.
Another forward-thinking measure implemented by the District involves purchasing excess water during abundant years and storing it in the Antelope Valley East Kern Water Bank. This storage area allows water to percolate into the aquifer for later retrieval when needed.
Our water supply comes from two primary sources:
- Antelope Valley Ground Water Basin (groundwater) - Provided 37% of our total water in 2017 from District-owned wells drilled 500-600 feet deep
- Antelope Valley East Kern Water Agency's Quartz Hill Treatment Plant - Supplied 63% of our total water in 2017 through two interconnections south of M-8
To ensure water quality, comprehensive physical samples are tested monthly throughout our distribution system, along with daily bacteriological sampling. All water quality analyses are conducted by certified California laboratories in compliance with California Department of Public Health standards.
