The Village of Roselle is committed to delivering residents and businesses with reliable, safe municipal water. This Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) provides vital information to those served by the Village-owned water distribution system, empowering them to make informed decisions about their tap water usage. This report fulfills requirements set by the 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act amendments, summarizing water sources, composition, and compliance with regulatory standards.

We're pleased to confirm that during 2017, the Village-owned water system met all water quality requirements. The information in this report reflects water consumed during the 2017 period.

Where does our water come from?
Our water is sourced from Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes. The City of Chicago (COC) Water Department treats and purifies this lake water before it's transported to the DuPage Water Commission (DWC) in Elmhurst. The DWC then distributes water to Roselle and 27 other DuPage communities through large transmission pipes. Roselle maintains three connections to these DWC lines and has emergency interconnections with neighboring communities (Elk Grove Village, Schaumburg, and Hanover Park) who also receive Lake Michigan water via the Northwest Suburban Municipal Joint Action Water Agency.

Lake Michigan, the second largest Great Lake by volume, is hydrologically connected to Lake Huron. Its shoreline, including all islands, spans nearly 1,640 kilometers. The entire 63-mile Illinois shoreline is considered to be in good condition.

Potential Contaminant Sources:
As water travels across land to the lake, it can dissolve natural minerals or radioactive materials and pick up substances from animal presence or human activity. Possible contaminants include:

  • Microbial contaminants: Viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, agricultural livestock operations, and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants: Salts and metals occurring naturally or resulting from urban runoff, industrial/domestic wastewater, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
  • Pesticides and herbicides: From agriculture, urban stormwater runoff, and residential usage
  • Organic chemical contaminants: Synthetic and volatile organics from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, and septic systems

While untreated lake water may contain these contaminants, it's important to understand these substances occur naturally to some degree. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk - the concentration level is what matters most.

Roselle Municipal Water Report Information

The EPA regulates contaminants in public water systems to protect public health. Water quality monitoring includes testing for numerous substances that could potentially impact human health and household plumbing.

Roselle's water comes from Lake Michigan, which requires extensive treatment before distribution. While this source water is generally high quality, regular testing ensures compliance with all federal and state standards.

Residents should be particularly aware of hardness levels in local water, which can affect appliance efficiency and soap effectiveness. The contaminants of special concern include Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate and Tetrachloroethylene, which are monitored regularly.
