Scarsdale Water Department

In compliance with State regulations, the Village of Scarsdale Water Department provides an annual report describing the quality of your municipal water. This report aims to enhance your understanding of water quality and emphasize the importance of protecting our water sources.

Where Our Water Comes From:
Our source water comes from the New York City Water Supply System and is distributed through a network comprising 100 miles of piping. Water is obtained through the Reeves Newsom Pumping Station from the Kensico-Bronx 48" pipeline serving Scarsdale, Mount Vernon, White Plains, and Yonkers (Westchester Water District No. 1). Treatment includes fluoride addition, chlorine disinfection, ultraviolet light secondary disinfection, pH adjustment with caustic soda, and orthophosphate addition.

Additional supply comes from the Ardsley Highway Pumping Station, which draws from the New York City Catskill Aqueduct with similar treatment. This station also maintains a backup connection to United Water New Rochelle. During 2017, our system operated without any source water restrictions.

Water Quality Protection:
The NYS Department of Health has evaluated water supply vulnerability under the Source Water Assessment Plan (SWAP). Our water comes from the Catskill/Delaware watersheds east of the Hudson River, where the NYC Department of Environmental Protection implements programs to evaluate and protect source water quality. These efforts focus on watershed rule enforcement, land acquisition and protection, and pollution-targeting partnership programs.

Water Rates (2017):
Customers were charged $2.85 per cubic foot for water up to 50 cubic feet per quarter and $9.97 per cubic foot for usage above this threshold. The annual average water charge per user was $939.80.

Service Statistics:
In 2017, the department conducted 5,031 service calls, replaced 301 meters, installed 1,288 remote radio meter reading devices, repaired 32 water main or service leaks, made 41 service taps, and replaced or repaired 43 fire hydrants.

1. When should I call the non-emergency number (1-800-249-0911)?
   Use this toll-free number when there's no immediate threat to life or property. Examples include animal control issues (not threatening public safety), reporting crimes that occurred earlier, requesting non-urgent police or fire assistance, or seeking informational requests related to public safety services.
2. How do I obtain an Absentee Ballot?
   Complete an Absentee Voter Application and return it to the Georgetown Township Offices. The form is available at the Township Office or in the forms section of their website.
3. What is a cross connection sump pump?
   A cross connection occurs when a sump pump connects to a sanitary sewer line, often via a hose leading to a laundry tub or floor drain. Sump pumps should drain into storm sewers through direct connections to main storm lines or by discharging outside the home through external pipes or hoses.
4. What size Accessory Structure can I build?
   The allowable size depends on your specific Zoning District. Information about accessory structures can be found in Chapter 3, Section 3.4 of the Zoning Ordinance.
5. Which Georgetown Township Parks can be reserved?
   Currently, Georgetown Township only accepts reservations for 8th Avenue and Maplewood Parks. Reservations are limited to weekends and holidays between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
6. Are there fees for certain payment methods?
   Yes. Payments made with credit or debit cards incur a 3% processing fee added to the total amount. However, there are NO processing fees for payments made using checks (including electronic checks) or cash.
7. What is Smart911?
   Smart911 allows residents to create a Safety Profile at www.Safety.Smart911.com for their household. When someone makes an emergency call, their Safety Profile automatically displays to the 9-1-1 operator, enabling dispatch of appropriate response teams with vital information. This system provides emergency responders with critical details like household members, bedroom locations, allergies, medical conditions, and photos of missing children.
8. Does Georgetown offer automatic withdrawals for utility payments?
   Yes. You can enroll in ACH automatic withdrawals by completing the application form. This service only works with checking or savings accounts.
