The Putnam Public Support District, in compliance with the Safe Municipal Water Act Amendment of 1996, proudly presents this annual water quality report to our customers. This report outlines your water's source, composition, and how it measures against regulatory standards.

The information presented covers our monitoring from January 1st through December 31st, 2017. This report is also available online at http://www.putnampsd.com/cc.pdf. For questions about this report, please contact our office at 304-757-6551. We welcome feedback at our regular board meetings, typically held on the second and fourth Thursdays monthly at our 74 Scott Depot Street location. Meeting details are posted at our office, the Putnam County Courthouse in Winfield, and on PutnamPSD.com.

Water Source Information: Your water comes from the Poplar Fork Creek watershed. Source water is pumped to a 60-acre reservoir for natural settling before treatment. Our facility is a 4-million-gallon-per-day multi-barrier conventional system with activated carbon filtration.

Source Water Assessment: Our intake has higher vulnerability to contamination due to the sensitive nature of surface water supplies and potential contaminant sources in the area. This doesn't mean contamination will occur, but preventative measures are essential. For more detailed information, contact Steve Inghram (304-757-6509) or WV Bureau for Public Health (304-558-2981).

Water Treatment Necessity: All water sources contain various contaminants. Federal and State regulations establish limits and treatment requirements to minimize these substances and their potential health effects. Our treatment processes are designed to meet these standards.

Water Quality Assurance: While water sources include various bodies like streams, lakes, and reservoirs, Putnam PSD draws from the Poplar Fork watershed. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity. All water, including bottled water, contains some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Municipal Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
