About Us
All municipal water sources are monitored for potential contamination by naturally occurring or human-made constituents. These elements can include bacteria, organic/inorganic chemicals, or radioactive materials. Every water supply, including bottled varieties, contains at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of these substances doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk.
For detailed information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the Environmental Protection Agency's Safe Municipal Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791. Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) are established with strict safety margins. To understand potential health impacts, a person would need to consume 2 liters of water daily at the MCL level for a lifetime to have a one-in-a-million chance of experiencing the described health effect.
Certain individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. People with compromised immune systems—such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS, elderly persons, and infants—should seek medical advice about their water consumption. EPA/CDC guidelines for reducing infection risks from cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available via the Safe Water Hotline (800-426-4791).
Potential contamination can occur through cross-connections to our water distribution system. When properly installed and maintained, these connections pose minimal concerns. However, unauthorized or improper piping modifications can adversely affect both water availability and quality. A cross-connection might allow contaminants to enter the water supply when not properly protected, compromising quality and potentially affecting health. To help protect your water quality, avoid creating improper connections at home, such as an unprotected hose lying in puddles or an unprotected sprinkler system after fertilizing or spraying. Contact us to learn more about safeguarding your water supply.
