St John Water District 3 Municipal Water Report Info

Who we are: The St. Johns River Water Management District serves as an environmental regulatory agency for the state of Florida. Our primary focus is ensuring long-term drinking water availability while protecting and restoring water bodies across 18 counties in northeast and east-central Florida.

While we collaborate closely with utilities on water supply matters, we are not a water provider ourselves. Florida established five regional water management districts in 1972 through the Water Resources Act (Chapter 373, Florida Statutes).

Our mission balances human water needs with environmental protection. Our daily operations include public education about conservation, establishing water usage regulations, conducting scientific research, collecting data, protecting surface and groundwater, and preserving natural areas.

The district spans 12,283 square miles (approximately 7.8 million acres). Our main water body is the northerly flowing St. Johns River, Florida's longest river contained entirely within state boundaries.

Our professional team includes biologists, geologists, hydrologists, engineers, planners, financial specialists, IT experts, land managers, and laboratory technicians. Many staff members hold advanced degrees and bring extensive experience from both private and public sectors, with numerous individuals receiving state, national and international recognition for their contributions.
