About Us
WATER QUALITY REPORT
The Sunnyslope County Water District is pleased to inform you that the municipal water delivered to your home meets or exceeds all federal and state quality standards. To safeguard public health, the Environmental Protection Agency establishes specific limits for contaminant levels in public water supplies. The presence of certain substances doesn't automatically indicate a health risk.
Sunnyslope County Water District conducts regular water quality monitoring according to federal and state regulations. Unless otherwise noted, the data in this report represents testing conducted from January 1 to December 31, 2017, and comes from the most recent assessments required by regulations.
WATER SOURCES
During 2017, Sunnyslope County Water District obtained:
- 37% from the District's five active deep groundwater wells located throughout the service area
- 63% from San Felipe area water treated at the LESSALT Water Treatment Plant
- 0% via distribution system connections with the City of Hollister
All drinking water sources (including bottled water) may contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive material. It can also pick up substances from animal or human activities.
Potential contaminants in source water include:
- Microbial contaminants such as viruses and bacteria from sewage systems, agriculture, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals that occur naturally or result from urban runoff and industrial activities
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
- Organic chemical contaminants from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants that may occur naturally or result from oil/gas production
Federal and California regulations establish limits for contaminants in public water to ensure safe drinking water. Similar regulations also govern bottled water quality to provide comparable protection.
