We are proud to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report designed to inform you about the quality water and services we deliver daily. The Water Division of Trussville Gas and Water consistently aims to provide customers with safe, reliable municipal water that can be used confidently at reasonable costs while maintaining exceptional quality standards.

Our dedicated team monitors your water supply 24/7 to ensure the water from our facilities meets these priorities. This report covers January 1 through December 31, 2017. Our water resources include 8 groundwater wells drawing from Tuscumbia-Fort Payne chert and Bangor limestone aquifers, serving approximately 12,050 customers. We maintain storage capacity of 13,900,000 gallons across 11 tanks, with one clean well holding 3,000,000 gallons and one raw water tank containing 4,300,000 gallons.

Water treatment processes include corrosion control, chlorination, filtration, flocculation, pH adjustment, and fluoridation. Trussville Gas and Water was among the first water systems in Alabama to develop a Wellhead Protection Program ensuring water supply safety. Additionally, our Source Water Assessment Plan, approved by ADEM, provides information about potential contamination sources and includes a susceptibility assessment categorizing contaminants as high, moderate, or low risk. All potential contaminants in our study area were rated either low or moderately susceptible.

The assessment is complete, public notification has been issued, and the plan is ADEM-approved. A copy is available for review during regular business hours, or you may purchase one for a nominal fee. Please help protect our source water by carefully following instructions for lawn and garden chemicals and properly disposing of household products, paints, and waste oil.

1. How often do I receive a utility bill? The City of Waconia bills for all utility costs monthly. Bills are typically sent via regular mail or email on the last day of the month being billed. Payment is due on or around the 21st of the following month.
2. Why is my bill higher than usual? Water meters are accurate to within +/-2% of 100%. An unusually high bill may indicate a plumbing leak. First compare the reading on your bill with your meter's current reading. The meter reading should be slightly higher than the billing, depending on time elapsed and typical usage. Your water meter has a leak detector (black triangle) in the center that remains still when no water flows. To check for leaks, turn off all water in the house—if the detector moves, you have a leak.
3. How can I check that my bill is accurate? As a homeowner, you can check your meter anytime to calculate usage. The meter is typically located downstairs or in a utility room where water enters your home. The dial on top reads like a car odometer. The City of Waconia rounds down to the nearest 1,000 gallons for billing purposes, with this number listed on your bill as "current" reading.
4. How are water meters read and when? The City of Waconia uses an automated meter reading system with monthly readings, typically on the 22nd of each month. If the 22nd falls on a weekend or holiday, meters are read to account for a 30-day usage period.
5. I haven't used any water, why am I still getting a bill? All properties receive a minimum service fee billing monthly. Base rates are defined in the city's fee schedule (Ordinance 1100).
6. I own an empty piece of land, why do I still receive a bill? The bill covers storm water management and street lighting throughout the community—charges applied to all properties regardless of development level.
7. How does a new resident sign up for utility billing? New residents can complete the online Move Form. Submitting at least 24 hours in advance allows time to schedule a final meter reading for accurate billing. Questions can be directed to the Utility Billing Department at 952-442-3107 or by email.
8. How do I cancel my utility service when moving? Access the Utility Department's resource on canceling service for detailed information.
9. How can I pay my bill? Several payment methods are available. See the Homeowner Utility Bill Pay Page for options.
10. What are the lawn watering rules? Year-round watering restrictions include odd-even scheduling and time-of-day limitations. Properties with odd-numbered addresses may water on odd-numbered calendar days; even-numbered addresses on even-numbered days. Watering is prohibited between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. to conserve water and maintain supply levels. These restrictions apply to all city water customers, including new sod and landscaping.
