About Us
The City of Simi Valley/Waterworks Section No. 8 is dedicated to delivering reliable, affordable, and high-quality municipal water to our community. This annual Water Quality Statement is provided to all customers we serve. We appreciate you taking time to review this report and look forward to continuing our service to your home or business.
Our district distributes approximately 19 million gallons of water daily to over 25,000 residential and commercial connections. This report provides essential information about water sources, composition, and safety standards.
The City/District meets rigorous water quality requirements established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and State Water Resources Control Board through regular, comprehensive testing. We work collaboratively with regional partners to continuously enhance water quality, protect water resources, ensure supply reliability, and maintain infrastructure integrity.

Our district supplies approximately 65% of Simi Valley's water needs, with Golden State Water Company providing the remainder. Our primary water supply comes from the State Water Project in Northern California. This water undergoes treatment, filtration and disinfection at Metropolitan Water District's Jensen Filtration Plant in Granada Hills before being conveyed via pipeline to Calleguas Municipal Water District, our main supplier. Additionally, Calleguas utilizes Lake Bard Reservoir for imported water storage from Metropolitan, with the Lake Bard Water Filtration Facility available during emergencies or planned facility maintenance. Our secondary water source is the Gillibrand Groundwater Basin north of Simi Valley, with this groundwater pumped to the Tapo Canyon Water Treatment Plant for processing before distribution.

Simi Valley At A Glance California Map of Simi Valley
The City of Simi Valley, with an estimated population of 126,788 (as of July 2015), ranks as the third largest among Ventura County's ten municipalities. Covering approximately 42 square miles, it's situated in Southeast Ventura County, adjacent to the northwestern boundary of the San Fernando Valley, roughly 37 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
Incorporated in 1969 under California's general laws, the city operates with a General-Law/council-manager governance structure. Historically, two Chumash settlements existed in what is now Simi Valley – villages called Shimiji (or Shimiyi) and Ta'apu. A third nearby settlement, Kimishax, was located closer to present-day Moorpark.
The name "Simi Valley" likely derives from the Chumash village "Shimiji." Similarly, Tapo Street and Tapo Canyon are named after the Ta'apu settlement. The city's official tree is the Coast Live Oak, whose acorns provided sustenance for the Chumash. The California Wild Rose serves as the official city flower, with its nutritious rosehips once consumed by indigenous residents.
In 1795, Spanish Governor Diego de Borica granted San José de Nuestra Señora de Altagracia y Simí to Santiago Pico, one of 240 Mexican colonists. This approximately 113,000-acre grant was among the largest ever awarded. Historical records emphasize the second syllable in Simí's spelling, suggesting the proper pronunciation is closer to "Suh-MEE" rather than the commonly heard "SEE-me."
