Certain individuals may have increased vulnerability to contaminants in tap water, including Cryptosporidium, compared to the general population. People with compromised immune systems - such as those undergoing cancer treatment, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders, some elderly residents, and infants - may face higher infection risks. These vulnerable groups should consult healthcare providers about their municipal water consumption.

The EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate methods to reduce infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available through the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).

Public Participation: The Board of Directors meets on the first and third Wednesday monthly at 5:30 p.m. at the Wells Branch Recreation Center, 3000 Shoreline Drive, Austin, Texas. Please call (512) 251-9814 to confirm meeting dates and times.

Water Conservation: In our water loss audit submitted to the Texas Water Development Board for January-December 2017, our system lost approximately 881,292 gallons of water, representing 1.18% of total water produced.

The District's water system is operated by Crossroads Utility Services, LLC. For questions about water quality or source, please call (512) 246-1400 or (512) 246-5905.

Water Sources: Municipal water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land surfaces or through ground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and potentially radioactive materials, and may collect substances from animal or human activity.

Possible contaminants in source water before treatment include: microbes, inorganic contaminants, pesticides, herbicides, radioactive materials, and organic chemicals.

Our municipal water is supplied by the City of Austin, which draws and treats surface water from Lake Austin. TCEQ's assessment of our source water indicates some sources may be susceptible to certain contaminants. The sampling requirements for our water system reflect this susceptibility.

Water Quality: ALL municipal water may contain some contaminants. When water meets federal standards, there may not be health advantages to purchasing bottled water or point-of-use devices. Municipal water, including bottled varieties, may reasonably contain small amounts of some contaminants, which doesn't necessarily indicate health risks.

For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).
