Your municipal water originates from various sources including rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals and sometimes radioactive materials, while also potentially collecting substances from animal presence or human activities.

Potential contaminants in source water include:

• Microbial contaminants such as viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
• Inorganic substances including salts and metals, either naturally occurring or resulting from urban runoff, industrial discharges, oil and gas production, or farming
• Pesticides and herbicides from various sources including agriculture, stormwater runoff, and residential usage
• Organic chemical contaminants, both synthetic and volatile, byproducts of industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, stormwater runoff, and septic systems
