West Jordan is committed to providing residents with safe, reliable water and proudly presents its 2018 Water Quality Statement. This document contains essential information about your tap water quality as required by the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Our Water Sources: West Jordan's water comes from two primary sources - approximately 85% is supplied by the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District (sourced from mountain reservoirs, springs, wells, and other origins). The remaining 15% comes from city-owned groundwater wells, which operate during summer months to meet peak demand. All surface water undergoes full treatment processes.

Understanding Water Contaminants: All water, including bottled varieties, naturally contains some level of contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For detailed information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791.

Health Advisory: While West Jordan's water meets safety standards, certain populations may be more vulnerable to contaminants. People with compromised immune systems (including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, HIV/AIDS patients, organ transplant recipients, and some elderly and infants) should consult their healthcare providers about drinking water safety. EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risks are available at 800-426-4791 or at epa.gov.

Fluoridation Information: According to the Salt Lake County Health Department, the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District has added fluoride to your water supply since October 1, 2003. This addition, combined with naturally occurring fluoride, maintains a concentration of approximately 0.7 mg/l at your tap.

West Jordan City Water System Municipal Water Report Info

The Foundation Years: Agricultural Beginnings
The Draper Irrigating Company (later renamed Draper Irrigation Company) was established in 1888 by local farmers who consolidated water rights to create a mutual stock company. These early stakeholders collaborated with their tools and horses to construct and maintain open irrigation canals for delivering mountain water to their agricultural lands. In those early periods, the company provided irrigation water only, as Draper was an unincorporated community without municipal water service.

Evolution to Municipal Service
The company began offering limited municipal water service around 1911. The system expanded gradually as community needs evolved. Initially using untreated mountain water filtered only through screens to remove debris, the system was upgraded in the 1930s with settling tanks for improved purification. By 1952, the Board of Health mandated chlorination for dairy farmers to sell Grade A milk, which the company implemented. A formal treatment plant using sedimentation and flocculation was completed in 1971, later modernized in 2004 with advanced microfiltration technology.

Modernizing Irrigation Infrastructure
In 1994, the company replaced its aging flood irrigation system with pressurized irrigation using piped water. This significant upgrade conserved valuable water resources, better accommodated Draper's transition from agricultural to residential community, and optimized use of the company's Utah Lake water rights while preserving mountain water for municipal supply.

Organizational Structure
Throughout its history, Draper Irrigation/WaterPro has maintained its status as a non-profit, shareholder-owned enterprise. Water rights belong to the company rather than individuals, with each shareholder entitled to use specific water allocations. These rights aren't held for speculation or profit but to support infrastructure development and maintenance. In the late 1990s, WaterPro was established as a fully-owned subsidiary handling infrastructure, equipment, system maintenance, and customer service.
