Weymouth stands as the Commonwealth's second oldest township, established in 1622 as the Wessagusset colony. Renamed in 1635, the community received a boost with 100 settlers arriving from its English namesake. Initially a fishing and agricultural settlement, Weymouth evolved into a prominent shoe manufacturing hub by the late 19th century.
