About Us
The Willingboro Municipal Utilities Authority (WMUA) extracts water from six groundwater wells strategically positioned throughout Willingboro. While some technical references mention surface water sources like lakes and rivers, WMUA exclusively relies on well water that can deliver up to 10 million gallons daily (mgd). This capacity not only meets all local consumer needs but also allows WMUA to supply water to neighboring Mount Laurel and Evesham Townships.
Our wells tap into the Potomac-Raritan-Magothy aquifer, a natural underground reservoir where soil formations provide natural filtration that helps remove various contaminants. Despite facing pressure from over-extraction in certain "Critical Areas," this aquifer remains a dependable water source throughout South Jersey.
Water quality assurance involves rigorous testing at our own NJ Authorized Laboratory along with several independent NJ Certified Laboratories. Thousands of tests are conducted annually to maintain exceptional water quality standards. WMUA operates four advanced treatment facilities utilizing cutting-edge technology to ensure water quality exceeds all Federal and State requirements. Treatment processes include chlorination for disinfection, lime addition to control pH levels, and fluoridation for dental health benefits.
