The Water Supply Division operates as a self-funded department within the Department of Public Works, established through Town Council action after Barnstable acquired the Barnstable Water Company assets in May 2005. This Division manages the water distribution network serving residents and businesses throughout Hyannis.
Following acquisition, the Town initially contracted with Connecticut Water Company for month-to-month management under DPW acting management supervision. During this transition period, the Town issued a Request for Proposals seeking qualified contractors to handle daily operations and system management.
The Water Supply Division's core mission focuses on providing safe, efficient and reliable drinking water to commercial and residential properties within Hyannis, while ensuring adequate fire protection capabilities throughout the service area.
