Is your municipal water safe? Yes, our water meets all EPA health standards. We have conducted numerous tests for over 80 contaminants that might be present in tap water. As shown in the report chart, we only detected 10 of these substances.

Where does your water come from? Your water is treated surface water. Our priority is protecting our water from contaminants, and we work with the State to assess the vulnerability of our water sources to potential contamination. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has prepared a Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP) Report for untreated water sources serving this system.

The SWAP Report evaluates the susceptibility of untreated water sources to potential contamination. To ensure safe municipal water, all public systems treat and regularly test their water. Water sources have been classified as reasonably susceptible, moderately susceptible, or slightly susceptible based on geological factors and human activities near the water source. Bloomingdale Utility District sources are rated as reasonably susceptible to potential contamination.

Why are there contaminants in my water? Municipal water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. 1. How often is my water tested? Bloomingdale Utility District tests water daily for some parameters and monthly for others, following EPA requirements.
2. What causes water hardness? Water hardness results from dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium, which can cause scale buildup in pipes and appliances.
3. Should I use a water filter? While municipal water meets safety standards, home filtration can address taste preferences or remove specific contaminants of concern.
4. How can I get my water tested? Contact Bloomingdale Utility District directly or use an independent lab certified for water testing.
5. What if my water looks discolored? Temporary discoloration can occur from system maintenance or line breaks. Run cold water for 5-10 minutes and contact the utility if the problem persists.
