Blytheville Waterworks consists of three primary departments: the Business Office, Water Treatment Plant, and Distribution Plant.

The Business Office handles billing and collection for Water, Sewer, and Trash Services for Blytheville residents, while also submitting required reports to local, state, and federal authorities.

The Treatment Plant filters and chemically treats water to make it safe for human consumption before pumping it through the distribution system. Meanwhile, the Distribution Plant maintains and repairs all water lines serving Blytheville citizens.

With a treatment capacity of 6 million gallons daily, the system serves approximately 7,200 customers both within and outside city limits. The water distribution network provides service to the City of Blytheville, City of Yarbro, Northeast Mississippi County Water Association, and Dogwood Water.

    This discoloration typically comes from iron in aging pipes, not a health hazard. During water main breaks or construction, iron scale can be released from pipe walls. This is usually temporary and should clear after flushing your cold water tap for 15 minutes. Don't wash clothes when water appears rusty, as it may stain fabrics. If discoloration persists, contact the Distribution Division.
  6. Why do crews flush fire hydrants?
    Regular hydrant flushing helps clean street mains and remove scale buildup in pipes. The initially discolored water typically clears quickly during the process.
  7. Why does tap water sometimes look cloudy?
    Cloudiness usually results from air bubbles entering the pipes. In colder months, cold water holds more oxygen than your household pipes. As this water warms inside your building, oxygen bubbles escape, creating a milky appearance. This is harmless and should clear within minutes as bubbles rise to the surface.
  8. Why are my faucet strainers clogging with white particles?
    Aerator screens on faucets and showerheads can collect debris present in water. These should be cleaned regularly and replaced as needed.
