About Us
This report is prepared to inform residents about the quality of municipal water and services that Bordentown Water Department provides daily. Our mission is to deliver reliable, high-quality water to your home consistently.
We want you to understand our ongoing efforts to improve water treatment processes and protect our vital water resources. We remain committed to ensuring the highest standards for your tap water.
Water Source Information: Our raw water comes from four groundwater wells drawing from the Magothy-Raritan aquifer. The City does not use any supplemental water sources. In 2017, we produced approximately 58 million gallons of clean water daily for our community.
Treatment Process: The Bordentown water treatment facility employs a comprehensive process including WRT radiological filtration, packed tower aeration, disinfection, pH adjustment, and corrosion control. In November 2015, we added a specialized radium removal system to address radioactive contaminants.
Water Quality Standards: The EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems to ensure safety. Similarly, FDA rules set limits for bottled water contaminants to provide equivalent public health protection. The Bordentown Water Department conducts regular testing according to Federal and State requirements.
All drinking water, including bottled varieties, may reasonably contain small amounts of certain contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
Public Meetings: To learn more, attend our regularly scheduled public meetings held at 7:00 p.m. on the second Monday monthly at the Carslake Community Center, 207 Crosswicks Street in Bordentown.
Lead Information: The Lead Action Level was exceeded during monitoring from July to December 2017. The 90th percentile value for 74 samples collected in November 2017 was 30 ppb, exceeding the 15 ppb action level. As part of our corrective action plan and following NJDEP guidelines, homes were retested with all results showing no further action level exceedances.
Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in water primarily comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing. While we provide quality water, we cannot control the materials used in plumbing components. To minimize lead exposure, flush your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. For concerns, consider having your water tested. More information is available at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.
