The Safe Municipal Water Act (SDWA) allows monitoring waivers to reduce or eliminate certain testing requirements for asbestos, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), lead and copper, and synthetic organic chemicals (SOCs). Our system received monitoring waivers for asbestos and SOCs, plus a reduction waiver for lead and copper testing.

We qualified for these waivers because: 1) we have no asbestos cement pipes in our distribution system, 2) our area shows low susceptibility to synthetic organic chemical contamination, and 3) our previous lead and copper sampling history met all SDWA requirements.

The Camden Water System serves approximately 50,500 customers throughout Camden City, excluding areas east of the Cooper River. Our water comes from the Potomac-Raritan-Magothy aquifer formation. We operate two treatment facilities: the Morris-Delair Plant in Pennsauken and the Parkside Plant in Camden.

Camden City Council meetings occur on the second and fourth Thursday monthly at City Hall. We encourage residents to attend and discuss any water system concerns. For meeting details, contact Norma Ruiz at 856-757-7115 or 7119.

Our Morris-Delair facility has an 18 million gallon daily capacity. The source water is generally good quality except for iron, manganese, salt and VOCs. Our treatment processes ensure the water meets all federal and state primary maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) and secondary recommended limits for iron and manganese. We also reduce VOC concentrations to below federal and state limits. This facility serves as the primary water source for the city.
