We are proud to present this year's Annual Municipal Water Quality Report. This document is designed to inform you about the quality water and services we deliver to you daily. Our commitment is to provide you with a safe and dependable water supply.

We continuously monitor for contaminants in your municipal water in accordance with Federal and State regulations. The data presented in this report shows our monitoring results from January 1st to December 31st, 2017. State regulations allow us to test for certain contaminants less frequently because their concentrations typically remain stable. Some of our data, while representative, may be more than one year old.

Certain individuals may be more vulnerable to contaminants in municipal water than the general population. People with compromised immune systems—such as those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS, elderly persons, and infants—may face increased health risks. These individuals should seek advice about water consumption from their healthcare providers. Guidelines for reducing infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available through the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

1. Who is responsible if tree roots are blocking my sewer line?
   Tree roots in a sanitary sewer lateral are the property owner's responsibility. Roots typically enter through joints in older clay tile pipes needing replacement or through connection points installed by the property owner. Both situations remain the homeowner's responsibility.
2. Can I get a reduction on my sewer bill if I water my lawn?
   Yes. Installing a separate irrigation meter through the City means you won't be charged for sewer usage on water used for lawn irrigation. Contact 231-799-6804 for details.
3. My home uses well water. Must I connect to municipal water to sell it?
   The City doesn't mandate connection to municipal water, though some mortgage lenders might require it.
4. How do I report a water leak in the street?
   During business hours (M-F, 8am-5pm except holidays), call the Water and Sewer Division at 799-6804. After hours and holidays, contact the emergency number at 737-2664.
5. Why is my water bill unusually high?
   Bills reflect your personal usage plus the base amount. Compare your interior meter reading with the current bill reading. Since meters are read the month before billing, your current reading should be slightly higher than the billed reading.
6. The lift station near my house has a red light on. Who should I call?

7. Who can help with repairs to my private water or sewer lines?
   The City cannot recommend specific contractors. Consider asking friends or relatives for referrals or consult business directories. Contractors working within city limits must provide proof of bonding and insurance for underground utility work.
8. What if I believe my water meter isn't recording correctly?
   Request meter testing by calling 799-6804. If testing confirms the meter is working properly, you'll be charged for the testing service. Contact the Water Department for current testing fees.
9. How do I report a noisy manhole cover?
   Report rattling manhole covers at www.nortonshores.org or by calling 799-6804.
10. Why are there utility flags in my yard?
    These flags indicate planned digging nearby. Anyone planning to dig, including homeowners, can request utility marking. Contact Miss Dig at 811 to learn who requested the markings.
11. Who should I contact about damaged fire hydrants?

12. Why is the City digging in my yard?
    The City owns right-of-way land where roads and utilities are located. While residents maintain this area to the street, the City may need access for utility repairs. We'll restore your yard with topsoil and grass seed, though weather conditions may delay restoration until appropriate conditions allow.
