California American Water Company - Suburban

The Suburban-Rosemont water system utilizes deep wells that extract groundwater from aquifers in the Sacramento Valley. California American Water employs multiple treatment technologies including:

• Granulated activated carbon (GAC) to eliminate trace organic contaminants
• Fluoridation for dental health benefits
• Iron and manganese removal systems
• Chlorination to ensure bacteriological safety

Additionally, California American Water purchases surface water from the City of Sacramento, which sources from the American and Sacramento Rivers. This surface water undergoes conventional treatment including coagulation, sedimentation, filtration with sand and anthracite, lime addition for corrosion control, fluoridation, and chlorine disinfection.

A Source Water Assessment (SWA) of the Suburban system conducted in February 2003 identified potential contamination risks. The sources were deemed most vulnerable to: sewer systems, known contaminant plumes, military installations, and agricultural chemical applications. Additional vulnerability factors include dry cleaning operations, plastics manufacturers, gas stations, leaking storage tanks, and chemical processing facilities.

Assessment reports for Sacramento's water sources completed in December 2008/2010 indicated vulnerability to recreational activities, urban runoff, industrial discharge, and agricultural contaminants. Starting Service

New customers within our service area must complete the appropriate paperwork and provide the required deposit. All documentation must be accurate and complete.

Checking for Water Leaks

Even a small 1/8" hole can waste nearly 100,000 gallons monthly. All leaks, regardless of size, require prompt repair.

• Check faucets - a slow drip wastes 15-20 gallons daily
• Test toilets with food coloring in the tank - watch for color appearing in the bowl without flushing
• Investigate any standing water outside your home
• Monitor consumption through your water meter
• Request a leak detection kit from our office

Reporting Leaks

Report leaks online or by calling (606) 474-7569 (during business hours) or (606) 474-5731 (after hours). Please specify:

• Type of leak (Water, Sewer, or Gas)
• Your contact information
• Location and description of the leak

Leaks are prioritized based on severity and addressed accordingly.

Meter Reading Questions

All meters are checked unless specifically marked as "estimated" on your bill. Consumption estimates occur only when a meter cannot be read after multiple attempts or when meter issues are detected.

Water Pressure Changes

Multiple factors can affect water pressure. Please contact our office for a detailed explanation if you experience changes.

Boil Water Advisories

These advisories inform customers that water may pose potential health risks due to biological contamination and should be boiled for three minutes at a rolling boil before consumption. Current advisories are posted on our website homepage, announced on local radio (WUGO 99.7 FM, WGOH 100.9 FM, WGOH 1370 AM), and shown on local TV channels.
