The City of Billings Water Quality Division is pleased to present our 2018 Annual Municipal Water Quality Report. We strive to keep residents informed about the exceptional water and services we've delivered throughout the past year. Our primary objective is to provide you with a reliable and superior water supply.

We continuously monitor our finished (tap) water to ensure it contains no regulated contaminants at levels considered hazardous by either EPA or the Montana Department of Environmental Quality. Your municipal water meets or exceeds all Federal Safe Drinking Water Act requirements.

All water we supply comes from the Yellowstone River. Studies examining the Yellowstone River's vulnerability to contamination have been completed, indicating our water source has low susceptibility to contamination. This assessment is available through the Billings Public Works, Environmental Affairs Division (406-247-8517) or Water Quality Laboratory (406-657-8346).

The Water Quality Division aims to deliver the finest tap water possible. We work diligently to protect water resources and treat your water to the highest standards. We want to meet your expectations but need your help identifying concerns. For more information or water quality questions, please contact the Water Quality Laboratory.

Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) can be reached at (406) 444-4400. To learn more, tours of the water treatment plant are available by calling (406) 247-8683 or visiting https://www.ci.billings.mt.us/forms.aspx?fid=137

The City of Billings Water Quality Division routinely monitors for contaminants according to Federal and State regulations. Water Treatment Plant Responsibilities
The Water Treatment Plant processes all of the City's water supply. Our team operates treatment facilities and distribution systems while maintaining all infrastructure needed to treat, pressurize and store the City's water. The Division also handles quality control testing and monitoring.

Certified operators and laboratory personnel provide 24-hour oversight of the water treatment process to ensure our water consistently exceeds Federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and Administrative Rules of Montana (ARM) requirements.

Water Quality Reports
The City of Billings Water Treatment Plant houses a State Certified Laboratory responsible for testing and monitoring water quality standards.

Water Reclamation Facility Overview
Billings began addressing wastewater treatment in 1945, with the first 15 million gallon per day (MGD) treatment plant becoming operational in 1950. In the early 1970s, the facility was expanded to provide both primary and secondary treatment for an average flow of 26 MGD and maximum flow of 40 MGD.

Current Construction
The Water Reclamation Facility is undergoing construction to increase capacity and enhance treatment processes. The upgraded facility will remove nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater to meet stricter state discharge requirements, with nitrogen and phosphorus removal beginning in 2019 and complete construction projected for early 2020.
