History of Burkburnett, Texas
The American frontier was transforming when in 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt visited Samuel Burnett during a wolf hunt in the "Big Pasture" region of what would later become Oklahoma. Burnett was a charismatic figure whose 6666 Ranch encompassed much of the North Texas-Southern Oklahoma territory.

In 1905, a portion of Burnett's vast estate was acquired by Frank Kell and J.A. Kemp of Wichita Falls, who were constructing a railway through Burnett's property to the "Big Pasture." A town lot auction conducted by Kemp and Kell on June 6, 1907 marks the official beginning of the community that would later achieve international recognition as the center of a remarkable oil boom. At Theodore Roosevelt's suggestion, the town was named after his wolf hunt host, Burk Burnett.

The oil-frenzied era was immortalized in stories and music, later becoming the subject of the Clark Gable-Spencer Tracy film, Boomtown. In every respect, Burkburnett is a forward-looking community. It embraces its future while honoring its colorful and historic past. Burkburnett continues to live up to its nickname: "Boomtown, USA!"
