The City of Highland Village has earned a "Superior Public Water Supply" rating from TCEQ for over a decade - the highest designation awarded to water systems that pass rigorous quality assurance evaluations. - The Trinity Aquifer (groundwater)
- Lewisville Lake (surface water purchased from Upper Trinity Regional Water District)

Immuno-compromised individuals (cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, some elderly, and infants) may be particularly susceptible to waterborne infections and should seek advice from healthcare providers.

- Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals (naturally occurring or from urban runoff, industrial discharges, oil/gas production)

Highland Village was incorporated in February 1963 after approximately 100 lakeside residents decided to establish permanent homes in the area. Many early residents were professionals from Dallas seeking weekend retreats that eventually became their primary residences. Initial development centered along Lake Lewisville's northern shores, which forms the city's northern boundary.
The remaining land was originally farmland owned by Robert DuVall, Highland Village's first mayor. Today's Doubletree Ranch Park occupies a portion of this historic farmland. Local legend suggests the area once served as a hideout for notorious outlaw Sam Bass, who appreciated the secluded terrain with its abundant trees and hills.
Highland Village celebrated its 50th Anniversary on February 16, 2013, with a commemorative event featuring a historical video documentary. The city's founding residents chose Valentine's Day 1963 as their incorporation date, reflecting their affection for the community.
According to "A History and Heritage of Highland Village," the modern community evolved from "a small, rural town into a suburban city practically overnight in the 1970s." The area's unique culture blended traditional rural Texan values with affluent Dallas residents seeking a more relaxed, nature-oriented lifestyle.
Between 1975-1985, Highland Village grew rapidly from approximately 1,000 to 5,000 residents, becoming a Home Rule City in 1986. Today's population stands around 15,850, with projections estimating 18,000 residents at full buildout.
