About Us
Your municipal water originates from the City of Everett's Spada Lake Reservoir, located at the headwaters of the Sultan River within the Sultan Basin Watershed. Constructed in 1965 with the building of Culmback Dam, Spada Lake Reservoir contains approximately 50 billion gallons of water.
A watershed represents a geographic region where all precipitation drains into a single water body. In the Sultan Basin Watershed, rainfall and snowmelt descend from the Cascade Mountains into streams and creeks that flow into Spada Lake Reservoir. This watershed spans 84 square miles of mountainous terrain and ranks among the wettest watersheds on the western Cascade Mountains, with annual rainfall reaching 165 inches—just slightly less than the Olympic Peninsula's Hoh Rain Forest.
From Spada Lake, water travels through tunnels and pipelines to Chaplain Reservoir where it awaits treatment at the nearby City of Everett Treatment Plant. Chaplain Reservoir is a smaller body holding roughly 4.5 billion gallons of water. After treatment, your water is pumped to Alderwood Water District facilities in South Everett, then transported to reservoirs north of Lynnwood, which supply the Lynnwood distribution system.
