About Us
A comprehensive assessment of Petaluma's municipal water sources was initially conducted in March 2003. The city's water supplies are considered vulnerable to several activities including: sewer collection networks, airport maintenance facilities, recreational areas, known contamination plumes, and underground storage tanks. The sources for the SCWA are primarily vulnerable to wastewater treatment operations and mining activities. Fortunately, no contaminants associated with these activities have been detected in either water supply.
Assessment copies are available at the Department of Health Services, 50 D Street, Suite 200, Santa Rosa, CA. You may request an assessment summary by contacting the Department of Health Services, Office of Municipal Water, at (707) 576-2145. Substances potentially present in water include:
- Microbial Contaminants from sewage facilities, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
- Inorganic Contaminants like metals and salts from natural sources or urban runoff
- Pesticides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential usage
- Organic Chemical Contaminants from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and waste systems
- Radioactive Contaminants occurring naturally or resulting from oil/gas production
