Texas Water Utility Companies

Sachse obtains water from POND LAVON, a surface water source, through North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD). Our city purchases this water and distributes it to residents through our local pipeline network. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has completed a Source Water Assessment for all municipal water systems, explaining potential vulnerabilities based on environmental factors and human activities.

In our 2017 water loss audit submitted to the Texas Water Development Board, our system reported approximately 104,137,300 gallons of water loss. For questions about this report, please contact us at 972.495.7600.

Important Health Information

All municipal water may contain trace amounts of contaminants, even when meeting federal standards. This doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. Immuno-compromised individuals—including those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, those on steroid treatments, people with HIV/AIDS, elderly residents, and infants—may be particularly vulnerable to waterborne infections and should consult healthcare providers about their drinking water.

If you're concerned about lead exposure, you can reduce risk by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. For more information on lead testing and prevention, visit http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Water Conservation Tips

  • Use science-based guidance from www.watermyyard.org to water your lawn efficiently
  • Check for broken sprinkler heads regularly—they're among the biggest sources of water waste
  • Use soaker hoses properly to help stabilize your home's foundation
  • Consider drought-tolerant native plants for your landscape

The North Texas Municipal Water District has implemented a Water Conservation Program limiting landscape watering to a maximum of twice weekly, and only when needed. Watering between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. is prohibited to reduce evaporation. Please visit the city website for the latest watering restrictions.

City of Sachse Municipal Water Report Info

History of Sachse

William Sachse, who immigrated to America from Herford, Prussia in 1840, founded what would become the City of Sachse. Arriving in Texas in 1845 at age 25, he initially secured 640 acres in Collin County before expanding to own an additional 5,000 acres. He established one of the area's first cotton generators and gins, which operated by ox and horse power until 1869 when a fire destroyed the facility. It was later replaced with a steam-powered plant.

In 1886, William Sachse granted one hundred feet of right-of-way frontage through his properties to the railroad. In exchange, the railroad constructed a depot and named the settlement Sachse. Interestingly, early signs on the depot building incorrectly spelled the name as "Saxe," leading to this misspelling appearing in various legal documents of that era.

During the 1880s, William Sachse's land holdings decreased substantially after he acted as bondsman for the Collin County tax collector, who absconded with county funds. This unfortunate event forced Mr. Sachse to sell significant portions of his valuable property to meet his obligations.

The community continued to develop throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with schools, churches, and local businesses serving the growing population. Today, Sachse has transformed from a small agricultural settlement into a thriving suburban community while preserving elements of its rich historical heritage.
