New York Water Utility Companies

To meet State regulations, Cortlandt Consolidated Water District releases an annual report detailing our water quality. Our goal is to increase awareness about your water supply and emphasize the importance of protecting our water sources. Last year, your tap water met or surpassed all State and Federal health standards for municipal water.

This report provides an overview of last year's water quality, including information about your water's source, composition, and how it compares to regulatory standards. The Water Division office is located at 167 Roa Hook Road opposite Camp Smith.

For more information, we invite you to attend our regular Town Board meetings held Tuesdays at 7:30 pm in the Vincent F. Nyberg Meeting Room at Town Hall. The Board also conducts three work sessions monthly on Mondays, with special meetings scheduled as needed. All meetings are open to the public.

For additional details, contact the Supervisor's Office at 734-1002 or visit the Town of Cortlandt website. For specific questions about this report or your water supply, please contact Stephen T. Ferreira, P.E. at (914) 734-1026.

WATER SOURCE INFORMATION
Our primary water source is the NYC DEP Catskill Aqueduct in Cortlandt. Water from the Catskill Treatment Plant undergoes pH adjustment, coagulation, filtration, chlorine disinfection, and corrosion control. We maintain a connection with Peekskill's water system as a backup supply, and the Amawalk Treatment Plant on Route 35 in Somers serves as an emergency water source via a 24" transmission main from Yorktown.

The NYS Department of Health has evaluated water supply vulnerability statewide through the Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP). These assessments estimate potential contamination risks but do not indicate that source water contamination has occurred or will occur. Our water system implements extensive treatment and monitoring to ensure safe drinking water delivery.

SYSTEM FACTS
Our water system serves approximately 33,700 residents through 8,100 service connections. In 2017, we distributed 0.90 billion gallons of water, with a daily average of 2.6 million gallons. Unaccounted water totaled 20% for 2017, which includes water used for main flushing, firefighting, and lost through leakage. Customers paid $7.74 per 1,000 gallons in 2017, resulting in an average annual bill of approximately $775.00.

Cortlandt Consolidated WD Municipal Water Report Info
The EPA requires all municipal water providers to produce annual Consumer Confidence Reports. These reports detail water quality testing results, identified contaminants, and potential health effects. Cortlandt's reports consistently show compliance with federal standards, though some contaminants of concern have been identified.

Key contaminants found in trace amounts include trihalomethanes (TTHMs), which form when chlorine disinfectants react with natural organic matter. While present at legal levels, long-term exposure to TTHMs has been associated with potential health concerns. The water district implements careful monitoring protocols to ensure these levels remain within safe parameters.
