About Us
Esta información contiene datos importantes sobre su agua municipal. Tradúzcalo o hable con alguien que lo entienda bien. (This report contains vital information about your water quality. Translate it or speak with someone who understands it.)
Our mission is to provide reliable, quality municipal water that meets all federal and state standards. Our water comes from four groundwater wells located throughout the service area.
Educational Information: Municipal water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals and, in some cases, radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal or human activities.
Potential contaminants include:
- Microbial contaminants from sewage plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential use
- Organic chemical contaminants from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants that occur naturally or result from oil/gas production and mining
The EPA and DEP regulate tap water contaminant levels, while FDA and DEP establish bottled water standards, both designed to protect public health. All municipal water naturally contains trace amounts of some contaminants, which doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk.
A Source Water Assessment completed in 2003 by PADEP identified our wells as potentially vulnerable to contamination from power plants, railroads, water transportation, and roadways. Overall, our sources have high risk of significant contamination. Assessment reports are available by writing to Creswell Heights Joint Authority or at www.dep.state.pa.us.
Certain populations may be more vulnerable to water contaminants, including those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, elderly individuals, and infants. These individuals should seek advice from healthcare providers about their municipal water consumption.
