About Us
This Water Quality Report (WQR) has been prepared to inform Downers Grove Water System customers about the quality of water delivered daily to their homes. The WQR is mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) following the 1996 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act.
According to this WQR, the water quality provided by the Village consistently meets or exceeds all state and federal standards. This report outlines the quality of water supplied last year and includes information on water sources, composition, and how it compares to EPA requirements.

The Village of Downers Grove, along with 28 other municipalities, purchases water from the DuPage Water Commission. This water comes from treated Lake Michigan surface water. The Illinois EPA considers all 63 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline within Illinois to be in good condition.
Due to concerns about potential contaminants entering drinking water as it flows across land or through ground, the Illinois EPA has completed a Source Water Assessment for our supply. More information about this assessment is available on page 5 with other details from the City of Chicago.
The Village's water infrastructure includes 7 water towers with a storage capacity of 8 million gallons. Additionally, the Village maintains three stand-by wells that undergo regular testing and maintenance for emergency situations. The system also includes 233 miles of water mains, 2,798 fire hydrants, 2,800 valves, and nearly 17,000 water meters. Last year, the Village pumped an average of 4.789 million gallons of water daily.
