Lyons Municipal Water Company and CDCHow do I obtain a permit to carry a handgun? State laws govern the procedures for handgun permits. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and free of felony convictions. Misdemeanor convictions related to domestic violence may prevent you from qualifying for a handgun permit. To obtain a permit through the Goshen Police Department, applicants must reside within Goshen city limits. To allow staff adequate time to process paperwork before closing, no applications are accepted after 4:00 p.m. on weekdays.
To apply for a handgun permit, begin by completing the online application on the Indiana State Police website (www.in.gov/isp). Following the application, schedule an appointment for electronic fingerprinting with a state-approved provider. Details are available on the ISP website. Paper fingerprint cards are no longer accepted for handgun permits. After completing the application, make payment, attend your fingerprint appointment, then bring your receipt to the police department for further processing. All applications undergo criminal background checks.
After the background check, the information division will review your application, collect the appropriate local fee (cash only), and electronically submit your application to the State of Indiana.
- How do I get a copy of my accident/case report? The information department operates Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fingerprinting and handgun permit requests must be initiated before 4 p.m. due to processing time. Reports are typically available within 24 hours. Photo ID is required for victims requesting incident reports.
- Limited criminal histories are available at our office with photo identification. Government agencies should contact our office for criminal history acquisition instructions.
- The information department accepts cash, cashier's checks, and money orders payable to the Goshen Police Department. Credit/debit cards and personal checks are not accepted.
Current fees at the information counter include: Criminal incident report - $1 per page, Fingerprint card - $5, Gun permit (4 years) - $10 plus state fees, Gun permit (lifetime with current permit) - $40 plus state fees, Gun permit (lifetime without current permit) - $50 plus state fees, Limited criminal history report - $7, VIN inspection - $5, Accident Report - $5.
How do I retrieve my vehicle from impound? Vehicles may be towed for various reasons. If your vehicle was towed under Goshen Police Department authority, standard release guidelines typically require: The registered/titled owner present with photo ID, two valid licensed drivers present with current licenses, and proof of ownership, valid registration, and insurance.
For non-drivable vehicles (accident-damaged or broken down), release is granted only for towing by authorized companies to private property. Damaged vehicles cannot be parked on city streets.
