The Water and Sewer Department administrative offices can be found at 555 S. Section Street in the Public Utilities warehouse. Office hours run Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with service available year-round, seven days per week.
New service connections and reconnections are handled by the Meter Department at City Hall, 161 North Section Street. City Hall operates Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact them at 928-2136.
Fairhope's Water Department has served the community since 1916, when a modern steel water tower was installed behind the current Fairhope Museum of History (former city hall). Before this infrastructure, since Fairhope's 1894 founding, citizens relied on a central town pump at the intersection of Fairhope Avenue and Section Street.
Today, Fairhope's Water Department stands as Baldwin County's largest water provider, serving approximately 40,000 residents through nearly 17,372 connections. The system maintains five water towers with 6.6 million gallons of storage capacity and pumps an average of 4.6 million gallons daily from ten wells drawing from a substantial underground aquifer. The department also oversees 65 lift stations and one wastewater treatment facility.
In 2007, the water department received a Water Fluoridation Quality Award recognizing consistent fluoride levels for optimal oral health. That same year, the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant earned the "Best Operated Plant" designation statewide in its size category. The Wastewater division manages 65 lift stations and 129 miles of sewer lines.
Most recently, the Fairhope Water Department earned "Best Tasting Water" honors from the Alabama/Mississippi Section of the American Water Works Association, and in March 2013, also received "Best Tasting Water" recognition from the Alabama Rural Water Association.
