About Us
Where does our municipal water come from? Galveston County W.C.I.D. No.1 customers receive treated water from Gulf Coast Water Authority's Thomas S. Mackey Water Treatment Plant in Texas City. Our water comes from Surface-water resources, specifically the BRAZOS RIVER.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is currently updating a Source Water Susceptibility Assessment for our water resources. This report will outline the vulnerability and potential contaminant sources that could affect our water supply based on human activities and environmental conditions. This information helps us prioritize source water protection strategies.
The TCEQ's assessment indicates some of our water sources are susceptible to certain contaminants. Our sampling requirements are based on this susceptibility analysis and previous testing data. Our Board of Directors and staff are committed to providing the highest quality water and wastewater services at the lowest possible cost. We continuously seek improvements to enhance service quality. Galveston County W.C.I.D. No. 1 is a governmental entity with a Board that meets the third Monday of each month at 5:00 pm (4403 Highway 3, Dickinson). The public is welcome to attend.

Our Mission Statement: The Board of Directors and Employees of Galveston County Water Control and Improvement District #1 have committed themselves to providing the highest quality water and wastewater services at the most affordable rates possible, while continuously seeking improvements to enhance service quality for all customers.
Water Sources: Our municipal water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, reservoirs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it naturally dissolves minerals and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.
Potential Contaminants Include:
- Microbial contaminants (viruses, bacteria) from sewage treatment, septic systems, agriculture, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants (salts, metals) from urban runoff, industrial discharge, oil/gas production, and farming
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential use
- Organic chemical contaminants from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants that may occur naturally or result from oil/gas production and mining
