About Us
Grand Haven Charter Township (GHT) is proud to present this year's Municipal Water Quality Report. This document highlights the quality of water we deliver to your home daily. Our primary mission is to provide you with reliable and safe municipal water. We remain dedicated to maintaining the highest standards for your tap water.
Our water is sourced through submerged intakes positioned deep beneath Lake Michigan's surface. The water undergoes pre-filtration as it enters our treatment facility. The natural sand layers above these intakes serve as an initial filtration barrier that complements our plant's direct filtration system.
We're pleased to confirm that your water meets all Federal and State of Michigan health standards. The Northwest Ottawa Water System (NOWS) treatment facility and Grand Haven Charter Township routinely test for various minerals and organic compounds in accordance with regulatory requirements. This report presents our monitoring results from January 1st through December 31st, 2017.
For questions about this report or your municipal water, please contact GHT's Public Services Director Mark VerBerkmoes at (616) 604-6313 or mverberkmoes@ght.org. We also invite public participation in decisions affecting water quality through quarterly NOWS Management Committee meetings held at Grand Haven City Hall Council Chambers.
All municipal water, including bottled varieties, may reasonably contain small amounts of certain contaminants. However, their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe Municipal Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
Certain individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. People with compromised immune systems (such as cancer patients undergoing treatment, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, elderly individuals, and infants) should seek advice from healthcare providers regarding municipal water consumption.
