Important facts about your water: Annually, Greenfield's municipal water undergoes more than 3,100 individual tests to ensure quality and safety. These evaluations include comprehensive source water analysis for pesticides, inorganic compounds, and radioactive substances. Water leaving the treatment facility undergoes daily testing for bacteria, pH, turbidity, and chlorine levels. Additionally, over 35 bacteriological tests are conducted monthly throughout the distribution system to verify water quality maintenance as it travels through miles of pipeline infrastructure.

Recent improvements: The Oak Hill Aerator was completely refurbished by DPW staff. This essential treatment component, in service since the 1930s, helps eliminate organic compounds and improve taste during summer months. The renovation included necessary concrete repairs and pipe replacement to maintain optimal performance.

System maintenance accomplishments in 2017 included: repair of six main breaks, fixing ten service line breaks, addressing a leaking hydrant, replacing five additional hydrants, and repairing a leaking valve in the 6-inch Conway Street water main.

Compliance notice: During 2017, a single Safe Drinking Water Act violation occurred for total coliform. While follow-up testing showed no bacterial presence, regulations require public notification of the initial positive sample. Had subsequent tests remained clear, an immediate notice would have been issued to residents.
