About Us
This annual municipal water quality report covers the period from January 1 through December 31, 2016. The Village publishes this report annually to inform residents about our water quality, source, treatment processes, and regulated contaminants. These reports comply with Safe Drinking Water Act requirements.
For more detailed information about your water quality, including tests for unregulated compounds, contact Melissa Olenick at CLCJAWA (847-295-7788), Brett Fritzler (847-599-6800), visit www.gurnee.il.us, or check the CLCJAWA website at www.clcjawa.com.

Our water comes from Lake Michigan and is treated at CLCJAWA's Paul M. Neal Water Treatment Facility in River Bluff. The facility uses an advanced purification process: first applying ozone to eliminate organisms and break down contaminants. Ozone is created on-site from air, bubbled into the water, then converted back to oxygen. Next, a coagulant removes sediments and impurities. After clarification, water passes through filters with activated carbon and crushed stone.
Turbidity (water clarity) is continuously monitored as an indicator of water quality and filtration effectiveness. Measurements occur every ten seconds through automated equipment and twice daily through manual laboratory testing. Following filtration, ultraviolet light treatment inactivates any remaining microorganisms. Finally, the water receives chlorine for protection during distribution, fluoride for dental health, and phosphate (a common food additive) to prevent metal leaching from household plumbing.
CLCJAWA has earned the Quality in Water Treatment award ten times and was the third facility nationwide to receive this distinction from the Partnership for Safe Water. This voluntary program, supported by the EPA, holds participants to standards exceeding current regulations.

The EPA requires all public water systems to produce annual Consumer Confidence Reports (CCRs) that detail water quality testing results. These reports help residents understand what's in their tap water and how it compares to federal standards.
Water quality monitoring includes tests for microorganisms, disinfectants, disinfection byproducts, inorganic chemicals, organic chemicals, and radioactive contaminants. The Gurnee municipal water system consistently works to meet or exceed all federal and state water quality requirements.
