About Us
The HMUA remains committed to delivering safe, clean water now and in the future through various improvement initiatives. Their Geographical Information System (GIS) serves as a vital planning tool for the entire HMUA Service Area, supporting operations and maintenance of infrastructure assets. This system is especially valuable for Asset Management Planning, now required under the Water Quality Accountability Act of 2017.
Since 1993, HMUA has replaced over 84,000 feet of unlined cast iron water pipes with modern lined ductile iron water mains. The most recent phase was completed in fall 2017, covering areas of Hackettstown and Mount Olive Township. These infrastructure upgrades have significantly improved fire flows and water quality for customers, helping Hackettstown achieve a Fire Suppression Delivery System Rating of 4 - placing the town among the top 10% nationwide. A new water main replacement project planned for 2018 will replace approximately 6,600 LF of water main within Hackettstown.
The authority conducts annual hydrant flushing throughout their 100+ mile distribution system to remove sediment from water mains and ensure consistent, high-quality water. This process includes testing every hydrant to verify proper operation during emergencies. Flushing is scheduled for May 2018, as now required by the Water Quality Accountability Act. During summer 2017, HMUA completed rehabilitation of their 2.4 million gallon water storage tank to ensure reliable service and meet peak demand periods.
