    Annual water quality reports are published and available for public review.
  6. What is the source of my water?
    Water in our service area comes from 18 deep wells.
  7. Why is my water bill unusually high?
    Elevated bills typically result from leaks (especially toilets) or increased usage patterns like garden watering or sprinkler systems. Monitoring your meter before and after watering can help identify consumption patterns.
  8. Can I request water meter testing?
    Yes, though a Meter Test Fee applies. If the meter proves inaccurate beyond industry standards, the fee will be refunded and bill adjustments made for up to six months.
  9. Who maintains water service lines?
    RMU maintains portions on city property or public right-of-way. Property owners are responsible for lines outside the right-of-way and for any upgrades/replacements within the right-of-way.
  10. Why is chlorine added to our water?
    Chlorine ensures water quality and integrity throughout our extensive distribution system.
  11. Why is fluoride added to our water?
    Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay and is recommended by the American Dental Association. It's also required by City Ordinance #2886.
  12. What is a backflow prevention device and when is it required?
    These devices protect public water from contamination through cross-connections. They're required wherever cross-connections exist or contamination potential is identified, particularly in fire sprinkler and irrigation systems.
  13. Is backflow preventer testing mandatory?
    Yes, annual testing by state-certified testers is required by law, with results submitted to RMU.
