About Us
The HAZEL CREST WATER DEPARTMENT is proud to announce zero EPA violations in 2017. Our tap water has consistently met all USEPA and state health standards for municipal water quality. Our dedicated Water Division had no violations of contaminant levels or other water quality standards last year.
This report summarizes the water quality we provided during January 1 to December 31, 2017. We believe you, as a valued customer, deserve to know about your water supply and our ongoing efforts to deliver safe municipal water.

The source of our water is purchased Surface Water. For more information about this report, contact the Public Works office at 708-335-9600 Ext. 200 or Water Plant Operator Joe Shupryt at 708-335-9600 Ext. 287.
Residents can participate in water quality decision-making processes at Town Board meetings held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. The Village receives water from the City of Harvey, which sources from the City of Chicago's Lake Michigan supply. Lake Michigan serves as the sole source for Chicago and 188 suburban communities.
The EPA has documented significant improvements in Lake Michigan water quality over the past two decades. By volume, it's the largest Great Lake located entirely within the United States, serving multiple purposes from drinking water to recreation, while also receiving municipal and industrial runoff from surrounding areas. All 63 miles of Illinois shoreline are now considered well-protected.
For a summary of completed Source Water Assessments including susceptibility to contaminants and protection efforts, visit the Illinois EPA website at https://www.epa.state.il.us/CGI-bin/wp/swap-fact-sheets.pl.
The high quality of the raw water allows for conventional treatment methods including disinfection, coagulation, sedimentation, and sand filtration to effectively provide water free from harmful contaminants. While all water, including bottled water, may contain small amounts of some substances, their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk.
